Q4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

The perfect audience for our media would be townies because they are the biggest stereotypes which includes everyone

But as we have evolved so we have a slightly wider range of people who might be attracted to come and watch this
I mean out media film can be related to any audience type
It doesn't have a perfect audience memeber

Q3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Q2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I can’t really relate m film character from another movie because there hasn’t been a movie similar to this yet. The closest movie character; from a movie that has been released, is probably Hancock. His personality might not the anything like this character, but he is a homeless type of guy with powers.

Another character that my character can relate is to is probably the new Clark Kent from the upcoming “Man of Steel”. I obviously haven’t seen the movie yet; but from articles and the trailer is meant to be lonely and stays away from a big society; which is a similar personality to my character.

I wouldn’t stereotype my character as anything yet, because at the moment he is just a loner. And usually you expect loners to be emo and goth characters with long hair; but this character is different.

Q1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The Title:  The title of our film comes in at around 0:56. We placed it here because this was this makes it looks more like a film intro, because the title is at around the start of the video. We originally had it at the end of the video in the rough-cut, but we decided it looked too much like a movie trailer rather than a film intro.
I think our movie title looks quite professional and could be used in a “real media” product.

Setting: You can get a good view of the setting from the 4th shot up to the 9th shot. The setting is around a very rural empty area near the coast. In the 5th shot, there is another earth in the sky; this is because our film is set in an alternate reality.
The setting usually can be compared to a real media product, because a real media product could be filmed anywhere.

Costumes: The costumes we used are just clothes. We used colours that blend in with our background and setting; for example, grey, brown and etc. The 6th shot up to the 9th shot gives you a good idea of the costumes used.
The costumes is the same issue as the setting because, you can use about anything in a real media product.

Camera Work and Editing: We did most of our camera work hand held because we wanted to do a tracking movement. We also used a tripod in quite a few landscape shots. I think all of these shots looks quite excellent once put together.
In all of the images you can see all of them have been edited quite well. For example all of these have 5% Gaussian blur and a lot of changes to the saturation, brightness and contrast. We also used three way colour corrector to give this film intro an attractive looks. For video transition we used a lot of film dissolves and cross dissolves to give the transition more depth. We also used dip to black and dip to black. Before the last clip there was a scene and it used a lot of fast cuts to change the sequence quickly.

Font and Style: The font we use for our “EdgeClub” title is called “Liffey Script SF”. We actually found it quite hard to find an ideal font for our tittle; and accidently we found this font and it worked perfectly. The font we used in image 2 and all of the casting is called “Adobe Arabic”. I think simple font work well to make the point clear; more example the director and etc. We also used the same font for our movie title “IMMANENCE”.

Story/Narrative: Honestly the story isn’t that clear usually in the intro of the movie. From all the images you can work out that the protagonist is actually all by himself; quite alone and in image 5 you can see another Planet (New Earth), which shows that this film has a ideas of science fiction and fantasy involved in it.

Genre/Suggestions: The basic genres are meant to be a drama, independent, sci-fi and fantasy. As I said before in the narrative image 5 shows another planet which has hints of sci-fi and fantasy.

Characters: You are able to first see the back of the character in image 6. You can’t exactly make out the character until image 7. As you can see he looks alone and you can also see that he is pondering. Joseph and I felt the character should have special abilities and is sent stays away from society because of it. He is a loner and that is the one word that sums it up. He dresses quite up in a casual state; but does have a few effects in his appearances that makes in looks a bit homeless, for example the beard.

Special Effects: We quite a bit of effects including colour correction. We have used a lot of special effects in our movie title and our “EdgeClub” title; we have used curves, optical flares, colour corrections, clouds and a whole lot of other effects using “Adobe After effects”. We were going to add a flying scene with after effects and green scene, but we felt a movie intro wouldn’t have it that soon throughout the film. I think the flying scene looked really realistic and we used keylight to give the best green screen effects possible. Another part we used special effects was in image 5; where we added another planet onto our sky. We just used a picture and blended it onto the sky; and tracked it using a null object so it would stay in place as the camera panned along. We also used a stretched optical flare for effect.
As you can see special effects did play an important role in our intro.

Editing and everything else that happened
since my last post.

As you can tell the editing process is probably the most important and also the most time consuming process of this whole media project. I used two different editing softwares, both by Adobe of course. The first one was Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, which I used to put all my clips together and include the music; so I basically used this program to do all the “easier” editing, such as shortening clips, putting them in the right place and adding video transitions such as dissolves, which I used a lot in this video. I also used this program to add colour correction, turn down the saturation and brightness in the video. As I said before it was a lot easier to do the easy editing with this program because After Effects would have taken A LOT longer. The colour correction played such a big part in this video because without all the effects the video looks quite terrible. Here is a screen shot of a clip with all the effects on and then a screenshot of the same clip without all the effects there.

As you can see the video looks quite amateur and quite dull without the effects on board.

We changed quite a few components of the video during the editing process. One of my friend’s Ayush advised me to change the font that displays all the cast, because the font I used earlier didn’t work and made the video look very amateur; so I took his advice and change it to  the “Adobe Arabic” font. Another thing we changed in the editing process is the music. The first piece of music we chose was "The Bridge Of Khazad Dum" from The Lord Of The Rings. I edited the video with the music, so the music and the video worked very, very well together; the music and the video synced in, but unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to use copyrighted music. I bought the pro scores by video co-pilot, so I used two pieces of music from that called “ Never Again” and “Sunrise”. Another Interesting thing I want to mention is that the seagull and the wave noises is actually a separate audio clip that was put in through editing, to give it a mood of an area around the sea. This worked really well with the original music because it gave it a very inspirational feel to it. I really wish we could have used "The Bridge Of Khazad Dum" for our final edit.

The second program I used was “Adobe after effects CS6”. I used this for our movie title and our production companies opening sequence (EdgeClub Media). This program is used to create visual effects and special effects. This program is a lot harder to use, compared to Premiere Pro. This program is capable of doing a lot, but the only problem is it takes HOURS to render and it isn’t exactly an editing program; I’d call it a special effects program. Again both of our intros took at least 2 hours to finish and they include Optical flares, colour correction and a long list on other effects. I used a video clip of clouds in our production company intro to create quite an attractive scene going on while a dazzling logo comes in. Our time did pay off at the end, because the title and the production company logo is one of the best factors of our video.

We have changed only a few things in our rough edits and our final edit. This includes
  • ·        Changing the soundtrack
  • ·        Changing the timing of when our movie title comes in, because it looked like a trailer rather than a movie intro.
  • ·        Changing 1 or 2 layout of the clips, to fit in with the timing

These changes might not seem like a lot, but it does change the mood to the video; especially the soundtrack.

At the end looking back at the editing, I would say it was actually quite a good and enjoyable process. Even though it took hours and hours of work, I would still say spending all that time on the editing was worth it because we were basically perfecting the video. I would say our video is the best it could be at the moment.
Unless Johnny Depp and Henry Cavill wants to come over and Starr in our movie; I don’t think we are going to make any changes.

Rough Cut

Here is our rough cut. A few thing we have decided to change are the time our movie title comes in. They reason we want to re edit it is because the title comes in at the end, this put out our video as a trailer rather than a film introduction. Another big change that is going to hapopen to this is the soundtrack for the intro. We have decided to change the music because Video Co pilot was being annoying. I bought the pro scores pack but seems all the music was copy righted, so we need to change the music again
